Terms of Service

Clarity · theclarity.app · a product of Canny Ventures Company

Effective 3 October 2026

01 · Agreeing to these terms

By creating a Clarity account, or by continuing past the entry screen, you agree to these Terms. Our Privacy Policy and Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy explain how we handle your data; they are notices to you, not terms you are asked to accept.

Clarity is made by Canny Ventures Company ("we", "us"). Write to mark@theclarity.app with anything about these Terms.

02 · What Clarity is, and what it is not

Clarity is a self-reflection platform. You move through an interactive Map of concepts, answer reflective Questions in your own words, and receive a personalised set of documents — your Resources Deck — organised from what you have written.

Clarity is not therapy or counselling. It is not a diagnostic tool in any form. It does not give medical, psychological, legal or financial advice, and it does not tell you what to do. It is not a crisis service.

If you are in crisis in the United States, call or text 988. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. Clarity may show you crisis and support resources during a session; it cannot contact anyone on your behalf and does not know where you are.

Resources are generated with the help of artificial intelligence from what you have written. They can be incomplete, can be wrong, and can misread you. Treat them as material to reflect on, not as conclusions about you. Your Questions are written by Clarity and informed by published research and established frameworks; they are not a psychological test, and your answers are never scored, diagnosed or judged.

03 · Who can use Clarity

Clarity is for people aged 1616have, we delete it. Users aged 16 and 17 receive the whole of the reflective product — the Map, Questions, your Journal and your Resources — and every privacy control over it.

The features that carry your writing to another person — Reconciliation sessions, Compositions offered on a relationship, and On Your Behalf — require you to be 18ever offered to anyone under 18 in exchange for their data.

By creating an account you confirm that you meet the age for the parts of Clarity you use.

04 · Your account

Your account is identified by a ClarID and protected by a PIN. Your PIN is stored only as a salted hash and we cannot read it. Keep it private: anyone who has it can read your Journal.

We limit repeated failed sign-in attempts and lock an account temporarily after too many. This protection is real but not yet complete, and we are strengthening it; it cannot protect an account whose PIN has been shared.

If you lose your PIN, we may be unable to restore access to your account, because we cannot read or verify its contents. There is no recovery path today. We would rather tell you that plainly than imply one exists.

05 · What you write is yours

You own everything you write in Clarity and everything generated from it for you — your Journal, your answers, your Compositions and your Resources.

You give us a limited permission to store, process and display that content only to provide Clarity to you: to keep it, to generate your Resources, and to show it to the people you choose to share it with. That permission ends when the content or your account is deleted, except for copies in backups, which expire on their normal schedule.

We will not use your content for any other purpose — not to train AI models, not for testing, not as an example, not in research, not in aggregate — without your separate, explicit, written consent.

No administrative surface in Clarity is built to read another person's Journal, and the sign-in gate on the admin area is enforced on the server. As a company rule, nobody reads a User's Journal: development runs on synthetic data, and access to a real person's material is permitted only in an emergency tied to a named incident, is logged, and is disclosed to you in writing within a day. We state the rule and the gate rather than claiming a proof we have not completed.

The admin area includes a ledger of accounts. It shows each ClarID, the name its holder gave, any role tags and the date it was created; for accounts that are not marked as working with the company it also shows how many items the account holds and when it was last used. It never shows what anyone wrote.

06 · Sharing with others

You can connect with other Clarity Users and choose, answer by answer or Composition by Composition, what they may see. Every grant is yours to revoke. Either side can end a connection.

In a Reconciliation session, nothing you write reaches the other person until you offer it and they accept it. Writing something is not sharing it.

What another person does with something you have shared is their responsibility, not ours. Journal exports carry your ClarID and a timestamp so a shared document can be traced to the account that exported it. No web app can prevent someone photographing or recording their screen; Clarity discourages copying but cannot make it impossible.

07 · Using Clarity well

Please do not:

  • try to access anyone else's account, Journal or Resources;
  • probe, scrape, overload or reverse-engineer the service, or try to extract how Resources are generated;
  • use Clarity to harass, threaten or harm anyone; or
  • enter another person's private information into Clarity without their permission.

We may suspend an account that does these things. Suspension never deletes your content; you can still ask for an export of your Journal by writing to mark@theclarity.app.

08 · Our property

Clarity's method, software, design, Map, Nodes, Questions, the way Resources are generated, and the Clarity and Careity names and marks belong to Canny Ventures Company. Some Questions are informed by published works owned by others; those works remain theirs, and nothing in Clarity is offered as a licence to them.

You may keep, print and share your own Resources as you like. You may not copy Clarity's Questions, content or design to build or train another product.

09 · Price

Clarity's core — writing, your Journal, your Compositions, your Resources, and every control over your own data, including consent, visibility, revocation and export — is free. Privacy is never something you pay to get back.

There are no paid features today. If any launch, they will be listed here with their prices, renewal terms and cancellation path before you are asked to pay for anything.

10 · Ending your use of Clarity

You can stop using Clarity at any time. To delete your account and everything in it, write to mark@theclarity.app and we will do it. There is no self-serve deletion button in the app yet; we are building one, and until it exists we will not pretend otherwise. Export your Journal first if you want a copy.

If we ever close Clarity, we will give you at least 90 days' notice and a way to export everything you have written. Losing access to Clarity the company should never mean losing access to your own reflections.

11 · Warranties and liability

Clarity is provided as is. We work to keep it available, accurate and secure, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that Resources will be accurate or suitable for any purpose.

To the extent the law allows, Canny Ventures Company is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of Clarity, and our total liability to you is limited to one hundred United States dollars (US$100). Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

This clause is jurisdiction-sensitive and is published pending review by counsel. If it is found to be unenforceable or inappropriate, it will be corrected and you will be told inside Clarity before the correction takes effect.

12 · Disputes and governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute may be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we each submit to their jurisdiction.

There is no arbitration requirement and no class-action waiver in these Terms. For a product people use to reflect on their own health and relationships, we think your right to be heard in a court, and alongside others, should not be signed away as a condition of entry.

If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, nothing here removes a protection your local law gives you that cannot be waived.

This clause is jurisdiction-sensitive and is published pending review by counsel. If it is found to be unenforceable or inappropriate, it will be corrected and you will be told inside Clarity before the correction takes effect.

13 · Changes to these Terms

We will tell you inside Clarity before a material change takes effect. If you do not agree, you can export your Journal and close your account before the change applies.
