Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy
Clarity · Canny Ventures Company · required by Washington RCW 19.373
Effective 3 October 2026
This policy stands on its own, as Washington's My Health My Data Act requires. It covers consumer health data specifically. Our general Privacy Policy covers everything else, and nothing here is narrower than what that policy promises.
01 · Why this policy exists
Some of what you write in Clarity may reveal something about your physical or mental health — a worry, a loss, a pregnancy, how you are sleeping, what you need. Washington's My Health My Data Act (RCW 19.373) and comparable laws in other states treat that as consumer health data and give it extra protection.
We do not try to sort your writing into health and non-health. We treat everything in your Journal, your Compositions and your Resources as consumer health data, for everyone, wherever you live.
02 · What we collect, why, and from whom
| Categories we collect | Journal answers and free-text reflections; Compositions you author from them; Resources generated from them; support signals recorded when the app's check matches something you wrote. |
| Why | Solely to provide Clarity to you: to store your reflections, to generate your Resources, and to show support resources when they may help. |
| Sources | You, and only you. We collect consumer health data only from what you enter yourself. We do not buy it, infer it from other sources, or receive it from anyone else about you. |
| Categories we share | Only the Journal content needed to generate a Resource, sent to our AI provider to produce it. Anything you choose to share with a connected person, at your direction and on your offer. |
| Who receives it | Anthropic (generates Resources), Supabase (stores it) and Vercel (hosts the app), each acting only on our instructions. A person you have connected with, only for what you grant or offer them. |
| What we never do with it | Sell it. Use it for advertising. Use it for company purposes — testing, content, examples, research or aggregate analysis — without your separate, explicit, written consent. |
Categories we collect
Journal answers and free-text reflections; Compositions you author from them; Resources generated from them; support signals recorded when the app's check matches something you wrote.
Why
Solely to provide Clarity to you: to store your reflections, to generate your Resources, and to show support resources when they may help.
Sources
You, and only you. We collect consumer health data only from what you enter yourself. We do not buy it, infer it from other sources, or receive it from anyone else about you.
Categories we share
Only the Journal content needed to generate a Resource, sent to our AI provider to produce it. Anything you choose to share with a connected person, at your direction and on your offer.
Who receives it
Anthropic (generates Resources), Supabase (stores it) and Vercel (hosts the app), each acting only on our instructions. A person you have connected with, only for what you grant or offer them.
What we never do with it
Sell it. Use it for advertising. Use it for company purposes — testing, content, examples, research or aggregate analysis — without your separate, explicit, written consent.
03 · Support signals
Clarity checks free text you write against a conservative set of rules that look for signs of distress. When one matches, the app may show you crisis or support resources, and may hold back prompts that would ask you for more.
This check raises a flag. It does not diagnose, it does not score you, it never blocks you from writing or submitting anything, and no person is alerted. What is recorded is which rule matched, how serious it judged it, which Question it related to, and when. You can clear it; clearing is recorded rather than the record deleted, so a cleared signal can be told apart from one that never happened.
Clarity is not a crisis service. If you are in crisis in the United States, call or text 988. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. Clarity cannot contact anyone on your behalf and does not know where you are.
04 · Your rights over consumer health data
Wherever you live, you may:
- confirm whether we hold consumer health data about you, and access it;
- get a list of every third party and affiliate it has been shared with;
- withdraw your consent to its collection and sharing; and
- have it deleted, including from our backups as they rotate, and we will pass the deletion request on to anyone we shared it with.
Exporting your Journal is self-serve inside Clarity. For the rest, write to mark@theclarity.app. We answer within 45 days, may extend once by up to 45 more where genuinely necessary and with notice, and will not treat you differently for asking. If we decline, we will tell you why and how to appeal, and if we deny the appeal we will tell you how to complain to your state attorney general.
No authorisation is ever a condition of use. You will never be asked to authorise a sale or a secondary use of your health data in order to use Clarity, and we will never offer you anything in exchange for it.
05 · No sale of health data
We do not sell consumer health data, and we have never sold it. Washington's Act requires valid written authorisation for any such sale; we do not seek one, because we do not intend to sell it. If that ever changed, we would ask you first, in writing, and you would be free to say no and keep using Clarity.
06 · Who to contact
Write to mark@theclarity.app. Every message reaches the founder. This policy changes only as described in our Privacy Policy, Section 13: we will say so inside Clarity before a material change takes effect.
